Motherhood and the Pandemic

I am recruiting mothers to be part of a study that looks at the effects of the pandemic on motherhood. I am interested in understanding how women have been coping with the loss of in-person school and child-care and the effects of this on the physical, mental and financial well-being of mothers and children. I am particularly interested in understanding the division of labor in the household for two parent households as well how one parent households have managed during these times. One important question I hope to answer is how these patterns shift across different racial and ethnic groups.

If you are a mother with school-aged children (kindergarten -12th grade), I hope you will consider participating in a confidential and anonymous survey to help us understand how the pandemic has affected your mothering, your well-being and your home-life this past year.

About me: I am a professor of sociology at SUNY Old Westbury where I teach classes on race and ethnicity and social theory. I work on issues of immigration and religion and now on motherhood. (lauralimonic.com)

La pandemia y la maternidad

Estoy trabajando sobre una investigación estudiando los efectos de la pandemia sobre la maternidad. Estoy interesada en entender como las madres están enfrentando la perdida de la escuela y cuidado de los niños y los efectos de esto sobre el bienestar físico, mental y financiero de los padres e hijos. Estoy particularmente interesada en comprender como se divide el trabajo en los hogares donde hay dos padres presentes y también entender como los hogares con un solo adulto han enfrentado la crisis. Una pregunta importante es entender como estos patrones cambian a través de distintos grupos étnicos o raciales.

Soy profesora de sociología en SUNY Old Westbury donde enseño clases sobre raza y etnicidad y teoría social. Trabajo sobre temas de inmigración y religión y desde hace poca maternidad.
